Phil DeFreitas applies for England bowling coach

Another ex-player throws his hat into the ring as Phil DeFreitas has applied for the job of England's bowling coach (thanks to Mahesh for the link). The article even goes so far as to list the criteria for the job:
  • high-level fast bowling coaching experience
  • a good knowledge of first-class and international cricket
  • a minimum coaching qualification of ECB Level III international equivalent
  • extensive experience of performance-analysis systems
  • a detailed knowledge of bowling biomechanics
  • a sound understanding of injury prevention and conditioning for fast bowlers
The article also includes a guided tour through the England's coaching system, showing how they use Hawk-Eye, Merlyn, 3D motion capture and even force plates that "measure the amount of force which goes through the bowler's back and front feet" to work out how injuries are caused. I think with my experience at computer programming and a physics degree, I might even have a shot at the job (being Australian probably helps too). Applications close today and the ECB say they've only received several applications to date. Doesn't seem like that many options to choose from barring a last minute rush. Maybe Darren Gough should apply - I could imagine the bowlers engaging in a soft shoe shuffle as they come in off the long run.
