Flintoff to play Australian club cricket
In an effort to gain match fitness before the Ashes, Andrew Flintoff is planning to play Australian club cricket. Surprisingly, Cricket Australia is supporting the plan. CA spokesman Peter Young cited several reasons for their support, including this point:
"...to have talent like a Flintoff or a Giles running around at club level is just a tremendous boost for club cricket. Can you imagine some 18-year-old sharing the new ball with Andrew Flintoff - what a tremendous experience that would be for a kid like that."That would be awesome - makes me want to join a cricket club. On the other hand, it wouldn't be so crash hot being the opening batsman with Flintoff steaming in with the new ball! Nevertheless, I confess I'm for the idea although with some misgivings. I'd much rather have an Ashes with Flintoff than without. On the other hand, I remember several months before last year's Ashes when Flintoff returned from South Africa for an ankle operation, hoping he'd be fit in time for the series. He was and we paid dearly. So I've learnt to be careful what you wish for.

Sorry... this has pretty much bugger all to do with your post (although the suggestion that anyone except me might be as happy to play with Giles as with Flintoff is rather amusing).
I'm English, and although that's no excuse, I realised I really don't have any idea who we will be up against come November. I know that down there you have billions and billions of brilliant players, but who do you think (at this point in time) will be lining up for Oz on that fateful Thursday in Brisbane?
It probably says somewhere on this site, but I can't really be fagged to search through it.
Cheers me dears...xXx

If Australia win the Ashes against an England side without Jones, Flintoff and Vaughan it doesn't count. Right?

Actually, I think it's more a case of the key players being offered the cricket - none of them have actually accepted yet. I'd be surprised if they actually do go and play, though if Ashley Giles does go, do us all a favour and just keep him.

I actually looked into this myself earlier this summer (but opted not to play cause, well, I just couldn't be arsed). I just googled 'Strathpine club cricket' on google.com.au (I live near Strathpine), being sure to select the 'Australia only' option. I would imagine searching just for 'club cricket' should get you in the right direction, probably get a state association or something similar.
Just don't get too good and help win the Ashes back in 2009! :-)
