Kiwi's prayer to the raingods works

The Kiwi's have gained the perfect result in the second ODI with the match being rained out.

Consider the alternatives:
  • Australia Win, series is 2-0 and kiwi's go home chappel-hadless
  • New Zealand Win, series is 1-1 and sets up a decider for the final match. Australia would go into game three treating it as a final, just ask India or Sri Lanka what happens when we apply ourselves in finals.

  • The third outcome of the match being rained out is by far the best option for enzed. That they looked hapless with the bat and crumbled to 3/not much is even better.

They now go into the final game with the trophy still alive. To retain the trophy they had to win in Hobart regardless, now Australia will have their guard down, and despite talk of how much this series means to us we've gone and rested Gilly for the final.

The game is in Hobart which will probably suit the choice bro's style, small boundaries and decent pitch for their 8 medium pacers. Vettori will be a handfull, and if Flemming or McCullum choose this day to fire they'll be saying "sweet as" for another 12 months leaving our cabinet is 1 from full.

Sure they're down on momentum, but really what is that in a 50 over game anyway? For me it's just a buzzword that Buchanan used to make the opposition feel inferior, and one he often used cause Australia always seem to have it!

I can assure you that Flemming (sic) will not get a run in Hobart.

Why is that? He's usually got for 35...

Take it there's only one m in his name then?

Only one “m” in former ODI player Stephen Fleming’s name.

Just hope thrid match is not going to be washed away by rain. Its going to be an easy one for Australia, NZ below par as always. NZ is a team that has never come to the top unfortunately. Most other teams, have done well at certian periods (not as consistent as Aus though). Looking at cricinfo, SL and Eng go for third test in a simmilar state 1-0, and with high potential rain in the rebuilt galle ground.

I'm genuinely concerned about this game. Sure on paper enzed look to be a weak team in comparison to the Aussies, however they have a long and proud history of lifting to get up on their neighbours.

The only thing Kiwi's like more than being underdogs is beating Australia, and lets not forget they made it to the semi finals of the last two ODI world cups.

Tactically they are the smartest team in world cricket, especially against oz. They probably did so poorly in SA as they were building us up for a fall in Hobart!

Yes, I forgot the fact that they reached the semis of last two ODI worldcups. They aren't really short of talent (even though its known and admitted by flemming after WC that compared to most other test natios, they have just abt 200 professional cricketers!), just that failing to get that consisitency going and apply preassure when required. I think they need to be a bit more innovative, may be promote Oram as an opener etc.

Also you have to consider that Hobart is so far south its almost home ground to the New Zealanders...

The most amusing comment though was this regarding Gilly's rest.

Tim Nielsen, the coach, said Gilchrist's rest was planned a month ago. "I don't think we're being arrogant ...

The irony there is that a month ago, they decided they would have won the series by the second game so they would be able to rest Gilly.

It was earlier this year that NZ beat us 3-nil which noone expected so I wouldn't consider the Hobart result set in stone. On paper, Australia have it sewn up and at times NZ struggle against our faster bowling but they also seem to pull these miracle innings out every now and then (or twice in a row last season). If McCullum and Oram fire in the one match, they could set an imposing total or chase down a big score. Hopefully will be a good game to watch.

Speaking of arrogance, there are a few errors on recent NZ cricket coming out on here…

Not only has 1-M Fleming retired from ODIs, but NZ did not make the semis in 2003; Kenya took our place largely due to the fact we forfeited our match against them.

I agree that in theory this is a match we could win, but it appears as if Comical Braces is doing his best to fire you guys up…

Sorry Leg Break, I did notice that but figured you made the Super 6 stage of the CWC which is essentailly a semi... though on reflection is not actually a semi so I stand corrected.

I think we're in for a shake in Hobart, in fact it's quite possibly that the kiwi invasion predicted by the Left Arm Chinaman may be in it's initial stages.

Be vigilant Tasmanians, just like the people of Darwin and Cape York before you, you're fighting for all of Australia to protect our outlying borders from the invaders.

When it coes to Aussie cricket you can safely spout the old addage of "Australia will probably win".

Not always the case - but pretty bloody likely until 2018 and beyond...

    So February 2007 never happened?
Posted by Leg Break on 2007-12-19 10:03:16
    Exactly, never happened.

Like Gilly and Ponting we were rested from viewing duties in preparation for the World Cup. Anyone remember how that one ended up?
Posted by Moses on 2007-12-19 11:59:42
Hmm, resting key players preparing for the World Cup leading to losing the Chappell Hadlee trophy.

Resting one of the same key players preparing for the Indian 4 Test series as we head into the game that decides the Chappell Hadlee trophy. Deja vu, anyone?

Well, I hope not. I'd like to have my cake and eat it too - rest Gilly, beat the Kiwis then have a rested Gilly flay the Indian bowlers. That is, if they ever get that far down the batting line-up - the Sri Lankans struggled to get even that far.
