Sreesanth gets slapped, cries, gets a hug and feels better
I apologise for the lack of IPL coverage here on cricket-blog. I tried watching the early games but when you're struggling to find a team to support and they're taking team names from 80's TV shows, well, can you blame me? However, some coverage of Sreesanth blubbering like a schoolgirl after getting slapped by Harbhajanh Singh certainly got my attention.
Now I know in this age of political correctness, it's okay for guys to cry. Men should be more adept at expressing our emotions (at least that's what my wife tells me). Nevertheless, I can't help smiling when grown men cry in public. One of my best friends cried at his wedding reception - we still tease him about it decades later.
I also like how the Indian media present it as "Breaking News" in the same sense that a war breaking out or someone landing on the moon is breaking news.

Really, its high time the IPL started making headlines for cricketing reasons. All we've heard about are the glittering opening ceremonies, American cheerleaders, bollywood stars going "deewana" (mad) - dancing, drinking shouting, and even performing stunts at the grounds, poor pitches, more cheerleaders, and now this!
I completely agree with Mukul Kesavan when he says that
"The IPL formula seems to go like this: take an abbreviated game, buy multi-star teams, chuck into pot with a ladleful of film-star flash, bus in a non-paying public with tiny attention spans, distract them with fireworks and other diversions, and sell the lot to an ambitious television channel. Only, somewhere along the way, Lalit Modi and his Money Men mislaid the cricket."
JC, has the IPL gained any popularity down under?
Here, the combination of too much sans cricket coupled with the ridiculous ticket rates have started to dent the IPL just a little. Probably , by the end of the tournament, the fever would have cooled down. Many had had enough of T 20 after the ICL concluded just before the Indian Paisa League started.
But when I saw Brendon McCullum score 158 in the opener with noone else crossing 20 on a batting beauty, I'd had enough...

"Whatever someone does on the field, you can never go around slapping people in the face" says Navjot Siddhu. I must say I agree with him, though his past hasn't exactly lived up to his statement! (He slapped someone in the face killing him, over a parking issue if I remember right)
So despite helping to strengthen relations between players of different countries, the IPL has brought up unnecessary tensions between players of the home team!
Well done Lalit!

Note how Harbajan owned up to it straight away, and then in the hearing. Seems to be an honest kind of guy…

I suppose Roy should have had a big cry.

Harby could have claimed it was meant as an affectionate gesture.
A bit like Ponting / Clarke claiming catches after the ball had bounced I guess.

Of course Sreesanth crying, that is just bizarre, not exactly what you expect from the "aggressive" Sreesanth.
But JC I am sorry more importantly where is disscusion on Gilchrist's 100 off 48, and Katich's 75. Focus JC Focus, more important "Breaking News" than two girls in a lovers tiff.

Ajesh, I haven't heard much interest in Australia re the IPL but I haven't been paying much attention myself. The most media attention so far has been shots of Sreesanth blubbering.
On that topic, I've come to the conclusion that Sreesanth is cricket's version of the cowardly lion from Wizard of Oz. Tough talking, strutting, boastful - then slap him on the nose and he turns into a blubbering mess.

Magnificent analogy for Sreesanth.
I guess I could Google it, but what was the lion called again?

This slapping incident does seem to sum up the new modern age Indian Team. Still can't believe one male sportsman slapped another... How does a guy even think of slapping another guy? I just have never have seen one guy slap another.
