India vs Australia, 1st Test, Day 1
Well it looks like it's time for hibernating cricket fans like myself to turn on the TV again.
We have what promises to be a thumping test series starting today in Bangalore. The verbal jousting has started again with Ponting and Sehwag bickering over the Sydney Test again. Frankly guys, I ain't interested. Bring on the cricket.
My prediction for this test is very un-Australian. India by two hundred runs. Without an established opening pair, a decent spinner, Symmo, a keeper with a 50+ average, and substantial player experience in India, we really have no hope of getting up against India over the next five days. I am happy to be proved wrong though. And I'm sure Punter, Mr. Cricket, and Bollywood Brett are all more than capable of doing that.
Here is the link to a live scorecard. Please keep the comments in the right spirit.

Katto is also in the B'astard Monkeys, 100 from him too much to ask?

Plenty of emails asking about Hayden's dismissal. I mentioned earlier that replays indicated there was no bat, instead it was bat brushing pad at the exact time the ball deviated away from Hayden. Extremely difficult for the umpire to pick up. And we have no referrals this series. Hayden can consider himself unlucky.

Only 27 overs in the first session, with 13 from spinners... wtf happened to the over rate? It's not like they were constantly fetching the ball from the boundary!

Clearly Punter was trying to take it easy to protect Clarkey, who has been damaging the dalton all week.

Let's not forget that the first wicket was lost only on ball 3 so this partnership is going well.
India may have a team of olds but I'm not convinced about our ability to bowl those little Indians out twice...

The way I always justify these bad decisions is that the batsman (not a bloody "Batter" BTW)
was so close to the ball that he could have tickled it on another day.
Still, I'm not real happy after seeing it but I'll let it go this time - esp as we will probably get 500...

Fantastic swing from bat onwards...
Haydo turns back to see WC immediately...
Give the poor Umpire a break guys
You are allowed to complain when Seven soljaz go down that way...
Congrats Punter...looking good !

Incidentally, I always thought that look-back thing was an admission of guilt until I faced JC - it's actually more of a compulsive reaction to a good ball, or a wicket ball I reckon!

That reflex is poorly specific ...
More a commentators thing that has been inflated over the years

India's 2 late wickets have really set this one up, tomorrow morning's gonna be a cracker.
But if India wrap the innings up below 400 they appear favourites simply because of Australia's lacking spin department. At the moment Michael Clarke appears to be Australia's best spinner. I just cannot see Cameron White performing up to test level yet, considering he bowls 6 different lengths in one over.
But two mysteries remained after day 1
1)What on earth became of the ICC's Review system which was on trial? I understand they are waiting to "gather all the data" from the India-Sri Lanka series, but testing the system in a high profile series like this would have brought the system under the spotlight and helped us on where we could've gone with it.
And more importantly,
2)How does Ricky Ponting always win the toss?

Ok he won at Edgbaston but he made the wrong call there anyway.

Think India edged the first day slightly. Clarke's dismissal has exposed a few younguns with the new ball taken. Was great watching Katich - i'm happy he's back, having taken a lot of the blame (undeservedly) for 2005. He can score 180 in a session domestically, then produce the patient innings that australia has needed at the top of the order since Langer's departure.
Why the hell didn't australia take Beau Casson to India, since they hauled him to WI for some experience. Selection policy on Oz spinners is a bit odd at the moment. Though if White comes out and takes 4 then I'll eat my mouse.
